HP-HVOF
HP-HVOF hypersonic spray makes it possible to produce very high density deposits of all metallic materials and superalloys and to avoid costly vacuum projection processes.
The principles of HP-HVOF hypersonic spray
HP HVOF hypersonic projection makes it possible to produce deposits of 0.05 to 1 mm thickness. Such performances can be achieved because the deposit is in compression and without porosity.
The particle speed can reach 1400m/s, the tear resistance of the coating exceeds 70MPa.
Thanks to a unique cooling system in France located on our Métrasur unit in Figeac, we control the temperature of the projected parts, which represents an advantage in terms of projection quality.
The coating is carried out without interruption between the layers which avoids defects in the deposit.
- The computer management of the cooling system ensures real-time visualization and data acquisition of the current projection.
- Productivity is improved, allowing production times to be reduced.
Deposits achievable with this technology:
– Carbide
– Chromium carbide
– Tungsten carbide
– Nickel chrome…
We offer solutions adapted to the needs of our customers for:
– resistance to aqueous corrosion
– resistance to high temperature oxidation
– resistance to acid corrosion
– resistance to wear by abrasion, erosion, cavitation, fretting, adhesion
– thermal, electrical, magnetic or conduction insulation
We offer these coatings in many areas covering aeronautics, chemicals, steel, petrochemicals, food processing, textiles, automobiles, marine, defense, etc.
The benefits of HP-HVOF spray
- Protection provided by a thick and extremely dense coating
- Extreme compactness (less than 1% porosity)
- Low oxidation compared to plasma and electric arc

Alternatives to hard chrome plating
In recent years, chrome plating has been questioned since this surface treatment process emits a substance considered carcinogenic. Carried in air and drinking water, this substance is highly dangerous.
In order to overcome this problem, regulators have implemented stricter air quality standards as part of the chrome plating process. APS did not wait for this regulation to be created to develop solutions that are more respectful of people and the environment.
HVOF coatings have proven to be vastly superior to chrome plating in terms of wear resistance (up to 5 times more effective) and provide equal or better protection against corrosion.
Unlike hard chrome plating, HVOF spraying has many materials to choose from depending on the application. Certain ceramic materials tested at APS Coatings gave results comparable to hard chrome plating.
